Lafayette Mayor’s Bicycle & Pedestrian Citizen Advisory Committee

In April 2017, an ordinance was adopted by Lafayette City Council establishing the Mayor’s Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee framework. Formation of the committee came as a recommendation of the 2017 BikeWalkGreaterLafayette Safety Plan. The purpose of this committee will be to ensure that the safety and needs of bicyclists, walkers and runners are addressed and are equally considered whenever public improvements are planned. To read the complete ordinance please go to http://www.lafayette.in.gov/DocumentCenter/View/7208.

West Lafayette Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee

The committee was formed early in 2003 by City Councilor Jan Mills in response to an objective within West Lafayette’s 2003 Strategic Plan to set up such a body.

No enabling ordinance was passed by the council so the committee considers itself to be sponsored by the City and has no specific authority, no budget, no official charter or bylaws, and no official membership. The organization’s mission is, “Improving West Lafayette for Bicyclists and Pedestrians”.

Bicycle Lafayette

The Bicycle Lafayette mission is…
TO ADVOCATE

Bicycle Lafayette works with local government, businesses, and private citizens to advocate for an improved cycling community. Lobbying for changes in local ordinances, searching out bicycle friendly businesses, and simply sharing bikes and our favorite routes are just a few examples of how we advocate.

TO PROMOTE

Bicycle Lafayette’s Mission is to promote cycling as a safe, viable, and healthy form of transportation and recreation in Lafayette and West Lafayette.

TO EDUCATE

Bicycle Lafayette takes special care to educate cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers on the rules of the road as well as how to stay safe. Not only do we host education specific events, such as Bicycle Rodeo’s, but we also take care to go over (and follow) all the rules of the road before and during any group rides.
